Tom Cruise named highest paid actor

3rd July 2012

Tom Cruise received a little bit of good news today, on his 50th birthday, when Forbes named him the highest paid actor in Hollywood.

The Mission Impossible star raked in $75 million between May 2011 and May 2012, according to the financial publication.

But as Tom heads for the divorce courts with estranged wife Katie Holmes, he is certain to keep hold of his fortune because of the tight prenuptial agreement he apparently has in place.

In joint second place are Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Sandler who both banked $37 million each. Although Adam's movie Jack and Jill didn't wow the critics it earned $150 million off of an $80 million budget.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson came in at number three with $36 million, Ben Stiller cashed in $33 million, while Sacha Baron Cohen, Johnny Depp and Will Smith all made $30 million in the 12 month time frame.

Mark Wahlberg, fresh off of the success of new movie Ted, stands proud with $27 million in earnings. Meanwhile, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson are still raking in the Twilight bucks with $26.5 million each.

The list is compiled using how much income the actors made in "upfront pay, profit participation, residuals, endorsements and advertising work," according to Forbes.com.
