Zooey Deschanel thinks it's wonderful to have an "inner dork".

The actress is currently promoting her TV show New Girl, in which she plays Jess. Her character has just become single and starts living with three men, with hilarious consequences.

Jess is awkward but also fun, something Zooey can relate to.

"There's definitely a lot of Jess that's similar to me. I was so much like her when I was 13. I wasn't the coolest kid in my class, but I feel like that inner dork is a wonderful thing to have," she told more! magazine. "And, on behalf of dorky school kids all around, I like to represent that. But I don't know whether I'd describe myself as particularly adorable."

Jess struggles with men in the show and it's something Zooey can relate to. She's given some tips about the best ways to make a romance work.

"Not being genuine," she replied, when asked what the main mistake men make with women is. "If you're not yourself, you soon get found out. You can only trick someone for so long."
