Kim Cattrall: I respect legends

14th November 2011

Kim Cattrall wants her work to have "longevity."

The 55-year-old actress is currently starring as Amanda in a revival of Nol Coward's romantic comedy Private Lives at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway. Legendary thespians such as Elizabeth Taylor, Maggie Smith and Gertrude Lawrence have previously depicted this character.

Portraying Amanda in the play is a great feat for Kim, as she has great reverence for these Hollywood icons.

"I feel like I'm following in these giant footsteps in my grubby sneakers," Kim told USA Today. "You turn 35 and the number of scripts submitted shrinks by half. Most movies are about photographing beautiful people of a certain age. But I'm still interested in telling stories especially about women my age. And there's longevity in theatre."

Kim feels at home in New York City. She is comfortable being back on the Broadway stage.

"I lead pretty much a normal life during the day; I just have this extraordinary job at night," she explained. "I prefer theatre to filming in some ways, because I hate getting up early. My pickup times for Sex and the City were 4.45 am, and I wouldn't get home till 2 am."

Although Kim did not particularly enjoy Sex and the City's filming schedule, the actress looks forward to an onscreen reunion in the future.

"From what I hear, [everyone in the cast] is off doing wonderful things, personally and professionally," Kim said. "That's great. And if we come back together, it will be, as my character Samantha always says, fabulous."
