Octavia Spencer will be honoured at the 5th annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon later this month.
The award-winning actress will join Pam Grier, Shonda Rhimes, Paula Patton and Kerry Washington - who will all be celebrated for their work within the film and television industries.
Octavia will receive the Breakthrough Award for her role in The Help, while Pam will be awarded the Legend Award.
Shonda will be recognised with the Visionary Award, Kerry will receive the Vanguard Award, and Paula Patton will claim the Shining Star award.
Essence magazine's editor-in-chief Constance White gushed about the talented women.
"Black women actors, writers, directors, and producers still lack diverse opportunities in Hollywood and, unfortunately, are often overlooked during awards season," she said in a statement.
"The Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon exists to provide a fitting tribute to the brilliant talent and accomplishments of African-American trailblazers like Kerry, Pam, Paula, Octavia, and Shonda, and celebrate their collective work as an inspiration for generations to come."
The award ceremony was launched in 2008 and has honoured the work of a host of stars including Halle Berry, Viola Davis, Jennifer Hudson, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Queen Latifah, Viola Davis and Zoe Saldana.
The Luncheon will take place on February 23 2012.
