Transformers maintains box office success

(Cover) - EN Music - Horrible Bosses made an impressive impact on the US box office ratings this weekend, although Transformers: Dark of the Moon continued to reign.

The action blockbuster, the third in the Transformers franchise, had already broken records on the July 4 break when it enjoyed the most successful Independence Day weekend by taking $97 million.

Directed by Michael Bay, the movie again topped the US charts this weekend by earning an additional $47 million. This means the movie's overall domestic sales total since its release is $261 million, making it 2011's highest grossing picture to date.

Meanwhile, comedies Horrible Bosses and Zookeeper also did well, with $28 million and $21 million respectively coming in at second and third place. Directed by Seth Gordon, Horrible Bosses tells the tale of three pals conspiring to murder their evil employers. Zookeeper stars Kevin James and Rosario Dawson, and is about a group of zoo animals helping their keeper find romance.

Other pictures in this week's top ten included Cars 2, which made $15.2 million and was in fourth place, with Cameron Diaz comedy Bad Teacher coming in fifth after making $9 million. (C) Cover Media
