Hansraj Saxena behind bars

4th July 2011

Senior executive of Sun Pictures, Hansraj Saxena, who was arrested in Chennai on Sunday on charges of cheating and intimidation, has been remanded to judicial custody. A close aide of the company's MD Kalanithi Maran, Saxena has been arrested at the airport by Chennai city police in connection with an alleged fraud in purchasing the telecast rights of a Tamil film, 'Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai'.

It is said Saxena was held at the airport after he arrived from Hyderabad following a complaint by TS Selvaraj, owner of Kandan Films in Salem.

According to reports, Selvaraj had lodged a complaint on July 1st with the City Police Commissioner, alleging that Sun Pictures had signed a deal to sell the distribution rights for Salem area for the film 'Theeratha Vilayatu Pillai'. They had signed a deal for Rs 1.25 crore and Sun Pictures had taken the money but Saxena had distributed the film directly to theatre owners after taking money from them, instead of selling the rights to Selvaraj.
